The DuPage Children's Museum updated their space and invited artists to contribute one of a kind lasting works of art in their classrooms and exhibits. For this mural, the museum selected a word they wanted to use to inspire their guests and I created artful patterns based on symbols and vibrant colors found in the museum. When you visit...If you look close you may be able to find other hidden things in the art!
"Museums are such wonderful spaces, filled with energy and education."
I love creating pop up murals, especially when kids and families can join in on the painting fun. This mural was created for the Lakeview Neighborhood in Chicago.
"Art making experiences bring communities together."
I worked with a great group of students from Springer Center School in Cincinnati, Ohio to create this wonderful mural in their school hallway. We focused on imagery reflecting nature and the students filled in my icons with their own designs. I lead two residencies with different groups of students to complete the entire 90 foot hallway. The students learned about shapes, symbols, patterns, and how these elements repeat in nature and can be used to make a collaborative piece of public art. The final mural was filled with beautiful details designed and painted by the students. I use this mural making process when I work with schools. This mural has become a strong branding element for the Springer Center. It's used on marketing materials, videos and a show piece when families tour the school.
“Art effects much more than just the space, it can help convey a powerful story and be part of positive childhood experience."
ToyLab is a workshop-style store in Cincinnati, Ohio. Guests create a new toy out of recycled used toys. The new creations are a bit wacky and fun! I was chosen to develop the branding including the logo design, a ToyLab typeface and all the graphics and materials for in-store signage and merchandising. I chose to create a large collection of comical toy-part symbols to use on all the materials. This was definitely one of my most creative clients and projects.
“If you want to ignite creativity, surround yourself with art and color and crazy shapes.”
