THE FORTUNES

CLEVELAND, OH : LAND STUDIO : TRANSIT MURAL

iNTER|URBAN

The INTER|URBAN, produced by LAND studio in partnership with the City of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, and The Cleveland Foundation, is a transformation of Cleveland’s public transit rail system into a large-scale public art experience. This city-wide initiative connects public transit riders physically, socially, and culturally to not only their surroundings but to some of the most important and difficult issues facing our society.

Inspiration for the artworks are taken directly from award-winning literature of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which recognizes authors exploring ideas of social justice, diversity, and the celebration of all cultures and backgrounds. Each piece is a direct reflection of the artists’ selected inspiration.

THE FORTUNES BY PETER HO-DAVIES

My art speaks to the perseverance of the human spirit under great pressure and tragic loss. I am interested in capturing the movement and flow, of lives crossing great distances (metaphor for journey) and leaving complex circumstances in hopes of promising future. I am also using the Chinese characters for Gold, Pearl, Jade and Silver as pattern details (to symbolize Chinese heritage) These are also the main titles for the four stories in the book. My color palette also references these titles. Immigrant stories are full of hardship and tenacity. I want my work to reflect the energy and complexity of intersecting worlds.
